Many of the cool features in Excel auto-detect data ranges to function, such as Filters, Flash-Fill and Pivots, to name but a few. Considering this, it’s really important that we store our data in such a way that an Excel Range can be detected without any issues. Simply put, our Data should be stored in an Excel Range without any blank Rows or Columns.
The simplest way to check if our data is stored correctly is to click somewhere in the middle of our data and then use the shortcut to select it – Ctrl + A.
This will reveal straight away if there is a blank row or column that is splitting your data into multiple ranges. It’s also a really neat shortcut to select all the data in your range if you want to copy and paste or apply specific formats such as cell borders etc.
