Frequently Asked Questions

Company Training FAQ's

  • How do I determine who should do which course?

By far the best option is for each of your staff to complete our FREE 30-minute Excel Pre-Training assessment. Once all assessments have been completed, we will send you a comprehensive report of their results along with the Course we recommend they start with.

  • What if the Assessment results produces a spread across multiple course recommendations?

For a big staff complement we can run multiple courses. A solution that has proven to be very effective for SME’s, is for those at the bottom end of the results to complete our online Excel Foundation course to get them up to speed, and then run an Instructor-led Intermediate Course for all.

  • What happens if someone is unable to attend training?

All those who are signed up for our live Instructor-led training are given life-time access to the self-paced online version of the same course. This also enables those who attend to revisit or recap on any of the sections covered.

  • Are the courses practical?

Workbooks are provided for each course to enable attendees to follow along with the instructor. Self-marking quick questions at the end of each section also help to re-affirm key concepts covered.

  • Do you issue certificates?

Indeed! Once the course is completed, each attendee is sent a course certificate, along with login details to access the online version of the course.

  • Where are the courses run?

Live face-to-face training is usually run onsite at your workplace. If preferred, we can also host you offsite for an additional fee. Live online training is facilitated using MS Teams or Zoom.

  • Are there any hidden costs?

Displayed costs are all inclusive for the training offered. We do however reserve the right to charge for additional travel costs incurred for onsite training that is outside the 3 main centres of Gauteng, Durban Metro and Cape Town.

  • What if I don’t have the minimum of 6 staff required for Live training?

In such cases, a great alternative is to enrol your staff for our self-paced online training. The course content is identical to the Live Training courses and is delivered in bite-sized videos. Courses can then be completed at one’s own pace, in one’s own time. A number of our large corporate Clients prefer this method, enrolling staff on courses as and when they need to.

Yes indeed. Once you have completed all sections of a course you will be able to download a Course Completion Certificate.

Self-marking quick questions after each section help assess your understanding and test your progress throughout the course. These are effectively self-assessments through and have no bearing on your Course Completion Certificate.

Yes, we do. We offer all our courses as Live Instructor-led courses, both Online and Onsite. For more info on this, visit our Corporate Training page.

General FAQ's

  • How does the training work?

This depends on your requirements. We offer:

Self-Paced Online Training: Delivered in bite-sized videos in your own time and at your own pace.

Instructor-led Corporate Training: Onsite or Online for a minimum of 6 people.

NB. The course content and material is the same across all methods of delivery.

  • Which method of Training should I choose?

If you’re an individual looking for training, or you’re looking to train 2-3 staff members then Self-paced online will be the best fit.

If you’re looking to train up to 6 people then you have the option of Instructor-led training, either online or onsite.

  • Do you offer public training?

In short, no. Our public training for ones and twos has effectively been replaced by our Self-paced Online Training. Live, instructor-led training is for groups of 6 or more, either online or onsite at your premises. We can also host you at key centres around South Africa, namely: Jhb, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban at an additional cost if required.

  • How does one pay and enrol?

For Individuals you can pay directly on our site through our secure payment gateway using your Debit / Credit Card or by EFT.

For Corporate training please contact us or call us on +27 (0)86 167 3923 or send an email to hello@summitsolutionstraining.co.za with your training requirements and we will quote or invoice you accordingly.

  • Do you offer bulk discounts?

For the individual our bundled courses are great value for money.

For Corporates we offer a sliding scale discount on bulk purchases of self-paced online training courses, plus we are open to various discounts on request and within reason.

  • Do we get a training manual?

Training manuals are old school ????. Comprehensive follow along Excel Workbooks form the backbone of our training. They contain:

    • Key notes on each section.
    • Exercises to complete while you follow along.
    • Self-marking quick questions after each section to test your understanding of key concepts.

In addition, all those who attend Live Instructor-led training are given lifetime access to the online version of the course to enable one to revisit any section of the course at any time.

  • Do you issue certificates?

Yes, each attendee receives an official Certificate of Completion at the end of each course.

  • Are your courses Certified?

Our courses are aligned with the accepted international Excel levels of Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Unfortunately, MICT SETA requirements do not match these. In light of this, we have specifically chosen to not align our courses with SETA.

NB! It is important to note that courses do not need to be SETA accredited for a company to claim against the Learnership Tax Incentive.

  • Do you offer any assessments?

We have a FREE 30 min Pre-Training assessment that is primarily designed to help assign attendees to the correct level course.

This can, and has, also been used as an effective Post Training Assessment, to quantify the effectiveness of the training if need be.

  • What version of MS Excel do I need to do the course?

Excel Beginner: Excel 2010 and up.

Excel Intermediate and Advanced: Excel 2013 and up.

Excel Automation: Excel 2016 and up.

  • Can I do the training on a Mac?

The short answer is yes, but you need to be familiar with your Mac

We have had a number of people work through our courses using the Mac version of Excel. Those who are regular Mac users cope fine, but those who aren’t, struggle quite a bit. Macs work quite differently to PCs, plus the layout of Excel on a Mac is also slightly different, so it can be tricky to follow along if you’re a newbie on a Mac.

  • Do you only train Excel?

Excel is our area of expertise, but we do also offer training on the other key Microsoft365 products, namely: Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • What if I just need some specific help in Excel?

We also do Excel Consulting, which is billed at an hourly rate. We have over 20 years of experience in creating Excel Solutions, so if you want to jump straight to the root of your Excel need, click here to email us the details, or give us a call on +27 (0)86 167 3923
